Welcome and keynote
The official opening of the conference will see .Nxt CEO Kieren McCarthy welcome attendees to the second .Nxt conference and give a quick overview of the conference.
The conference will then be addressed by Internet pioneer, cyber-activist and former Grateful Dead lyricist, John Perry Barlow.
Barlow is renowned for his vigorous defense of the Internet’s openness. He wrote A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace in 1996, established the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) in 1990 and has written extensively on the Internet’s expansion and development for Wired and The New York Times.
In addition to being a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School, he is a highly original, entertaining and enlightening speaker.
Most recently, Barlow gained new-found fame during an address to a panel of CEOs at the eG8 in Paris. Going against the prevailing mood on the panel, and in direct contradiction to French President Sarkozy's calls for more regulation of cyberspace, Barlow drew cheers and applause when he argued that imposing greater controls was precisely the wrong way to make profits in the Internet era.
Come listen to what Barlow has to say about the expansion of the Internet's namespace.
